Dallas:  la storia 

Jock Ewing è un petrolire di successo. La moglie Eleonor, alias "Miss Ellie" è una casalinga figlia del padrone del ranch. Negli anni '30 Jock si mette in affari con Willard "Digger" Barnes e attraverso molti affari diventa ricchissimo. Ora nella gigantesca Southfork Ranch vivono  due generazioni di Ewing: il primogenito, John Ross (detto J.R.) spietato ed infame uomo d'affari che per il successo ed il potere non guarda in faccia a nessuno. Infedele alla bellissima moglie Sue Ellen (ex Miss Texas), è il padre di John Ross II; Bobby Ewing, il secondogenito dal cuore buono che è sposato con Pamela Barnes e padre di Christpher; Lucy Ewing, la nipotina sexy di Jock; Ray Crebbs, il responsabile del ranch (più tardi si scoprirà che è il figlio illegittimo di Jock); e Gary Ewing il fratellastro alcolizzato di Bobby e J.R. che lascerà il Texas per stabilirsi definitivamente in California (spin off di Dallas) con la moglie Valene (madre di Lucy Ewing). Ecco alcuni personaggi importanti che hanno avuto a che fare con gli Ewing: Kristin Shepadrd, sorella più piccola di Sue Ellen che sparerà (dopo una relazione finita male) a J.R. uccidendolo quasi. Il corpo di Kristin verrà in seguito trovato senza vita galleggiante in una piscina; Cliff Barnes, il fratello avvocato di Pamela la missione del quale è distruggere la famiglia Ewing e soprattutto il suo acerrimo nemico J.R. (Cliff tenterà il suicidio); Katherine Wenworth, sorellastra di Pamela che tentrà (fallendo) di uccidere Bobby (che apparentemente muore, ma in seguito si scoprirà che era tutto un sogno di Pamela che una mattina si sveglia dopo questo lungo incubo e lo trova tranquillo sotto la doccia); Donna Culver, moglie di Ray; Leigh McCloskey che sposerà Lucy. Nel 1981 Jock Ewing muore in un tragico incidente aereo, così Ellie si risposerà con Clayton Farlow; in seguito una cugina Ewing, Jemie, si sposerà con Cliff e James Richard Beaumont arriverà a Southfork Ranch dimostrando di essere figlio di J.R. avuto da una relazione passata.

J.R. continuerà per tutta la vita a lottare per l'impero della Ewing Oil cercando stratagemmi sempre più loschi per mantenere il potere.

Dallas: the plot

Jock is a successful oil man. Eleanor, a.k.a. “Miss Ellie” is a homemaker and daughter of the former owner of the ranch. In Jock's early days (in the 1930s) he joined forces with partner Willard “Digger” Barnes and struck it rich. Now two generations of the Ewing family live comfortably on their sprawling Southfork spread The Ewing clan consists of the oldest son John Ross “J. R.” Ewing, a ruthless, backstabbing businessman who is the unfaithful husband to the beautiful Sue Ellen and the father of son John Ross Ewing; Bobby Ewing, the kindhearted younger brother who is husband to wife, Pamela Barnes-Ewing and the father of son, Christopher; Lucy Ewing, Jock's sexy granddaughter; Ray Krebbs, the ranch foreman (later discovered to be Jock's illegitimate son); and Gary Ewing, the alcoholic middle brother of J.R. and Bobby Ewing who left Texas to live in a cul-de-sac neighborhood of Knots Landing, California with his wife, Valene.Friends of the Ewing family included Kristin Shepard, Sue Ellen's young sister who shot J. R. and nearly killed him after she had an unsuccessful affair (Kristin's body was later found floating dead in a pool); Cliff Barnes, Pamela's lawyer brother whose mission in life was to destroy Ewing Oil and especially the philandering J. R. Ewing (Cliff attempted suicide but recovered); Katherine Wentworth, Pamela's half-sister who stalked and shot Bobby (he survived) and then apparently killed him with a hit-and run accident as he tried to save Pamela from the oncoming car (Bobby's death was actually the result of a terrible nightmare. One day Pamela woke from her sleep and she discovered her husband Bobby peaceably showering in the bathroom); Donna Culver (who married Ray Krebbs); and Leigh McCloskey (who married Lucy Ewing). In 1981, Jock Ewing died in a tragic South American plane crash. and Miss Ellie remarried to Clayton Farlow. Meanwhile, cousin Jamie Ewing got married to Cliff Barnes; James Richard Beaumont appeared on the doorsteps of Southfork as J.R.'s long lost son and Jock's oldest son J.R. Ewing continued his plots to seize control of the Ewing empire.
